Liverpool's feud with Egypt escalates as they claim they 'cannot communicate' with Mohamed Salah

Egypt’s relationship with Liverpool appears to be getting more strained amid claims they are unable to establish contact with Mohamed Salah.

It comes after Liverpool wrote to Egypt last week to request the exemption of Salah from their upcoming training camp in Abu Dhabi.

It is in the Middle East where the African nation are set to face New Zealand in a friendly tournament on March 22.

The Reds' request was rejected and Egypt called up their skipper to take a first-hand look at his injury.

Careful management of the Salah’s injury was the focal point in the letter addressed to the Egyptian FA, where they pleaded for them to put his long-term health at the forefront of their mind when making a decision on his inclusion.

Salah sustained a hamstring knock whilst on international duty at the Africa Cup of Nations in January and has played just once for Liverpool since initially being deemed fit to return to action.

Senior figures at the Egyptian FA called for doctor Mohamed Abu El-Ela to conduct his own assessment of the forward before making a final decision on his involvement in the training camp.

Egypt said they would 'adhere to his inclusion' if he was to play any minutes of the Reds' title charge before the international break.

But a new development has surfaced after the Egyptian FA board claimed they have been unable to communicate with Salah.

“The Egyptian national team, led by Hossam Hassan and Ibrahim Hassan, could not communicate with Mohamed Salah so far,” said Ehab El Komy of the Egyptian FA.

Salah scored in a 45-minute cameo against Brentford last month, but has been sidelined ever since

“There hasn’t been any meeting between the technical staff of Egypt and Mohamed Salah yet.”

The 31-year-old played 45 minutes of Liverpool's 4-1 win over Brentford on February 17, but has not featured since due to injury.

Boss Jurgen Klopp could have his talismanic forward available for Sunday's crunch clash at home to Manchester City with the player back in training.

Though it is likely that any involvement would be minimal to avoid Salah suffering a recurrence of his injury.

Liverpool know that failure to beat City could see them knocked off top spot, with Arsenal to potentially leapfrog them should they beat Brentford on Saturday night.
