Joe Cole has suggested that Chelsea have a player who actually reminds him of Jordan Henderson in that he has the potential to just keep getting better and better.

It has been another mixed campaign for the Blues. There have clearly been some positive signs. But fans would be forgiven for wondering what mess they would be in if it was not for Cole Palmer.

Palmer has been absolutely outstanding since his move to Stamford Bridge in the summer. He has arguably been head and shoulders above almost anyone else in Mauricio Pochettino’s squad this term.

But there is little question that there are a few teammates who also have real potential.

Conor Gallagher has captained the Blues on a number of occasions this season, scoring three and contributing six assists in 30 Premier League games.

Gallagher has been such a consistent performer in the top-flight for a few years now, whether he is at Chelsea or out on loan.

And given his senior role, it would be easy to forget that Gallagher is still only 24 years of age.

There is a question mark over Gallagher’s Chelsea future, with his contract expiring next summer. But speaking on talkSPORT (broadcast on 22/4; 11:12), Joe Cole believes that the England international has the potential to really grow in the years to come.

“I liken him to a Jordan Henderson. I think he can keep getting better and better. Because every year I’ve watched him play, he’s got better and he has been influential in this team,” he said.

Henderson definitely had an incredible spell at Liverpool. In his early years at Anfield, it appeared that he was not cut out to play for the Reds.

But Henderson developed into an outstanding captain, playing his part in Liverpool elevating themselves back into contention for Premier League and Champions League glory.

Henderson won, and lifted, almost every honour available to him by the time he left Merseyside last summer.

Chelsea are looking for the pathway to take them back to the summit of the game again.

And clearly, Cole believes that Gallagher is one of the players who can help them get there.
