EFL loan man 'ready' for Celtic chance next season ahead of summer return

Fleetwood Town loan man Bosun Lawal has said he is ‘ready’ to break into the first-team picture at Celtic next season.

Fleetwood Town swooped to sign the 20-year-old on a temporary basis last summer.

Lawal, who can play in either defence or midfield, has since made 40 appearances for the League One side in all competitions this season, chipping in with four goals and a single assist.

He has provided this update regarding his Celtic aims, as per a report by the Daily Record: “Obviously [the plan is] to get as many games as I can up until then and go again in pre-season, make an impact hopefully at Celtic. They do keep in touch. I speak to the coaches quite a bit and they come to the games sometimes.

“I do think I can be a goalscorer, and a defensive player, just whatever the game requires I can provide. That’s how ready I am.”

Fleetwood Town loanee eyes Celtic game time

Lawal’s switch to Fleetwood has worked out for both him and the Hoops.

He has got plenty of game time under his belt with the third tier outfit which will have boosted his development.

The youngster is under contract at Celtic Park until the summer of 2026 and he is unlikely to return to Highbury Stadium for a second spell, especially if Charlie Adams’ side drop into League Two.

Lawal started his career in Ireland with St. Kevin’s Boys and Bohemians before moving over to England when Watford came calling in 2019.

He then spent two years with the Hornets before Celtic lured him up to Scotland and he has since been a regular for the Hoops’ B team in the Lowland League.

The Republic of Ireland youth international has played once for their senior team so far but is keen to force his way into Brendan Rodgers’ plans in the next campaign.

In the meantime, his focus will be on helping Fleetwood end this term on a high. They are currently sat in 22nd place in the table.

The Cod Army are five points from safety with nine games left to play. Next up for them is a home clash against Cheltenham Town after the international break.
