John Mousinho shares truth over Portsmouth scouting trip amid Premier League midfielder link

Portsmouth saw links with midfielder Leonard emerge once again at the start of this week. It was reported that John Mousinho was in attendance of Northampton Town vs Derby County, a game in which the Brighton & Hove Albion loanee played.

Preston North End, Plymouth Argyle and Swansea City were all linked earlier this month and they were mentioned in the fresh report once more. Alongside them this time was Pompey and Cardiff City.

Now though, Mousinho has clarified the purpose of his recent trip to Sixfields.

As quoted by The News, the Portsmouth boss stated that he was in attendance to cast eyes over Derby County. The promotion rivals visit Fratton Park next week, so Mousinho wanted to take the chance to assess the upcoming opponent.

He said:

“Same again, it just so happens at the moment that a lot of the sides we're going to watch seem to clash with watching Northampton!

“It was a really good game to watch with Derby as our opposition and coming up in a few days.

“It's just a good opportunity to watch a game live. As coaches there are so few games we can get to which fall within, first of all, a decent enough geography for us to get to games after training. But it's also the game falling on a day we don't have a game.

“So it's really important for us to watch teams live – and we picked up some good stuff.”

In addition to Mousinho’s words, The News states that Leonard is not currently on the radar as a potential summer transfer target for the League One leaders.
