Portsmouth mainstay quizzed on contract situation with current deal up this summer

Portsmouth centre-back Sean Raggett isn’t thinking about his contract situation as he remains fully focused on the club’s push for promotion from League One.

Portsmouth have had Raggett on the books for coming up on five years now. He first joined on loan from Norwich City before signing permanently the following summer.

Now 30, Raggett has played for the League One side 233 times. Many perhaps expected his minutes to be more limited this season but a campaign-ending injury to Regan Poole has seen the Gillingham-born defender play 38 times, starting all but one league game since November 11th.

Question marks surround what could be next for the Pompey man as his contract comes to an end this summer. However, Raggett isn’t paying any attention to the matter yet.

Speaking with BBC South reporter Andrew Moon, Raggett has said his experience has helped him push his contract situation to the back of his mind. The full focus is on promotion, for both him and everyone else at Portsmouth.

“The club and the players are just focusing on getting promoted, and all of that side of things will come at the end of the season I’m sure,” he said.

“I’ve not personally thought about it myself at all really. I’m a bit older now, I’m 30 years old, so a bit more experienced. You can’t sort of leave those things in the back of your mind and just get on with the job you’ve got at hand.

“Maybe when I was a bit younger I might have been thinking about it a bit more but now, it’s just full focus on getting promoted.”
