Hull City had midfielder Stephen Quinn on the books from 2012 to 2015 and at 38, he’s played a pivotal role in winning Mansfield Town promotion.

Hull City are currently embroiled in their own late push for promotion as they fight to sneak into the Championship play-off spots at the death.

The Tigers have four games left to make up a six-point deficit to Norwich City, who sit 6th in the Championship table. It’s a doable task, but Liam Rosenior’s side must end strong and rely on a slip up from the Canaries.

While Hull may just come up short in their promotion bid, one former player who is celebrating a rise is midfielder Stephen Quinn

Still doing the business

18-time Republic of Ireland international Quinn made his breakthrough in England with Sheffield United after time in the St. Pat’s academy in his native.

He spent seven years at Bramall Lane from 2005 to 2012, when he made a switch to Hull City.

Three years on Humberside saw Quinn test himself in the Premier League and he was a solid asset for the club. He was an energetic presence in the middle of the park, with his diminutive stature helping him regularly maintain possession as he worked in both attacking and defensive roles.

Overall, he played 97 times for the Tigers, chipping in with five goals and nine assists.

He was 29 when he left Hull, but nine years later, Quinn is still starring in the EFL. A long spell at Burton Albion followed before moving to Mansfield Town in 2021, first on loan before a later permanent move. He’s played 141 times for the Stags since, chipping in with nine goals and 23 assists along the way.

At 38, he’s enjoyed one of his most influential campaigns to date. Four goals and 11 assists in 32 games have helped Mansfield Town win promotion to League One.

Who is this?

The rise was confirmed on Tuesday night, with Quinn managing a goal and an assist in the 2-1 win over Accrington Stanley.

Few players are so important at such a late stage in their career, but years after his time at Hull City, Quinn has played a central role in Mansfield Town’s long awaited promotion from League Two.
