Bradford City boss Graham Alexander has hailed Tyler Smith for his ‘great’ finish against Barrow last night.

Bradford City won 2-1 away at Holker Street to keep their season alive heading into the final weekend.

Smith, 25, scored a late winner against the Bluebirds to secure the three points, with Bobby Pointon getting their other goal.

Alexander said after the game, as per the official club website: “It was a great finish from Tyler. Massive pressure to keep our season alive, but he was as cool as you like – great finish. In a season, you go through the ringer. The players dug deep, they put everything into the game.

“There were brilliant scenes at the end with the supporters and the players. Let’s go again on Saturday.”

Bradford City keep season alive

Bradford City are sat in 9th place in the League Two table and are two points off the play-offs.

They face Newport County at home on the final day on Saturday and face an Exiles side who have nothing to play for.

The Bantams need to win against Graham Coughlan’s side and then hope Barrow and Crawley Town don’t win to sneak into the top six.

Alexander’s men head into the match in confident mood and are unbeaten in their last six outings, winning their last three on the spin.

Bradford City swooped to land Smith on a free transfer last summer following his exit from Hull City in the Championship.

He has turned into a useful addition for the Yorkshire club and has scored 12 goals in all competitions in this campaign, five of which have come in the league.

The attacker rose up through the academy ranks at Sheffield United and played once for the Blades’ first-team, as well as having loan spells away from Bramall Lane at Barrow, Doncaster Rovers, Bristol Rovers and Swindon Town to gain experience.

Hull City snapped him up in 2021 and he found the net on five occasions for the Tigers in 39 outings.

He then had a loan stint at Oxford United last term before moving to the Bantams and he will be fully focused on this Saturday’s clash against Newport County as his side look to reach the play-offs.
