Mansfield Town boss Nigel Clough has said he is looking to bring in ‘six or seven’ new players this summer.

Mansfield Town are preparing for life in League One next season and have a busy few months ahead.

The Stags have been promoted from League Two along with Stockport County and Wrexham.

Clough has provided this insight into his recruitment plans, as per a report by The Chad: “It’s about getting a balance. Most of the lads will get an opportunity to see if they can perform in League One.

“We’re not one of those sort of clubs who believe in getting rid of 12 players and bringing 12 new ones in. Having the nucleus we’ve got is brilliant, so if we can add six or seven very good players to it then that will do the job.

“There will be departures – just the natural sort of fall-off with a few out of contract and everything.

“A few might get better offers or offers to play more regularly and that will be the thing for them. We will sit down and have a chat with them all next week and see where we are.”

Mansfield Town transfer plans

Mansfield Town need to ensure that they get their signings right in the next window to make them a competitive force in the league above in the next campaign.

Stevenage, Leyton Orient and Northampton Town all adapted well to the step up after they went up last year. However, Carlisle United struggled and have finished rock bottom.

The Stags have a few players out of contract in late June such as George Maris, Ollie Clarke and Jordan Bowery and have some big decisions to make.

They also defender Lewis Brunt heading out of the exit door back to Leicester City when his loan deal expires.

Their key attacker Davis Keillor-Dunn is under contract for another 12 months which is a boost and it will be interesting to see how he does next term.

Mansfield Town won 2-1 at home to Gillingham last time out and have one more fixture left to play against Barrow away this weekend. The Bluebirds were beaten 2-1 by Bradford City on Tuesday evening and need a result to cement their place in the play-offs.

Clough won’t want his players to lie down for the Bluebirds though and will be eager for them to head into the summer on a high.
