Grimsby Town boss David Artell will have the chance to put his own stamp on the squad this summer with some additions.

Grimsby Town have managed to secure their place in League Two again for next season.

They won 2-0 at home to Swindon Town last time out as they prepare for their final day trip to Crawley Town this weekend.

The Mariners should look at signing winger Charlie Kirk when his deal at Crewe Alexandra expires in late June.

Who is this?

Grimsby Town should sign Crewe Alexandra man

Grimsby Town could do with some more quality in attacking areas to avoid another year of struggle.

Artell knows Kirk well from managing him at Crewe Alexandra and managed to get the best of him during their time in Cheshire together.

The attacker re-joined the Railwaymen on a free transfer earlier in this campaign but only penned a short-term contract. It remains to be seen whether he will be staying put at this stage.

Therefore, the Mariners should try and lure him to Blundell Park and offer him a new challenge in his career.

Kirk cut ties with Charlton Athletic in December and Artell said at the time he was interested. He told BBC Humberside Sport: “We’re always interested in good players and I think he’s a good player. I know Charlie’s on a lot of money, or he was, he’s not anymore. I’m sure he’s got lots of interest in him.

“We will see what happens. The truth is I don’t know. Now Charlie’s a free agent, I might give him a ring, see what his plans are and wish him a good Christmas.”

He rose up through the academy ranks at Crewe Alexandra and became a key player for their first-team before Charlton Athletic snapped him up in 2021.

The Cheshire-born man then played 48 games for the Addicks and scored four goals, as well as having a loan spell away at Burton Albion.

His future is up in the air and Artell should put him high up on his list of targets ahead of next term.
