The72’s writers offer their Notts County vs Stockport County prediction ahead of the League Two clash on Tuesday evening.

Notts County head into this midweek clash with Stockport County off the back of a 3-1 victory away from home over Walsall, stretching their unbeaten run to three matches.

Macaulay Langstaff and Aaron Nemane had the Magpies two goals ahead in the first half, prior to the Saddlers’ Brandon Comley being sent off in the second half. The hosts halved the deficit through Mo Faal after going down to 10 men, but Sam Austin instantly restored Notts’ two-goal cushion as they moved up to 14th in the table.

Stockport County, on the other hand, clinched promotion to League One in their last outing, beating Morecambe 2-0 on home soil to return to the third tier for the first time since 2010.

The scoring was wrapped up in the first half through Isaac Olaofe and Fraser Horsfall as Dave Challinor’s men retained their position at the top of League Two. They are now just three points away from becoming champions.

“We often see sides slightly derail after confirming promotion, but with Stockport in excellent form and the league title not yet confirmed, I can’t see them dropping off too much against the Magpies.

“Notts have upped their performance levels in recent weeks having scored nine in their last three outings, so they may fancy their chances of halting the Hatters’ party.

“I certainly expect to see goals in this one, though I have an inkling that Stockport might drop points for the first time in seven matches.

“My prediction is a well-contested score draw on this occasion.”

“It’s good to see that Notts County are ending a turbulent first season back in the Football League with some good results. However, Stockport County are flying, and I think they’ll get the title wrapped up here.

“We’ve seen that Notts can be pretty leaky at the back before and with Challinor’s side riding such a high, I think they’ll expose some of the host’s shortcomings.

“This should be a competitive game but ultimately, I’ll say the visitors win 3-1.”
