Rangers fans might've caught a glimpse of Dundee attacker Luke McCowan last night.

That's if they could make out the Dens Park number 17 through the cracks in their fingers.

The Rangers Scottish Premiership title tilt is hanging by a thread with five games to play, three points behind Celtic and 0 goals at Dens Park.

Rangers fans are incensed as a five game Scottish Premiership run upends their season with defeat to Ross County and a draw with Dundee gifting the advantage to Celtic.

All things considered, the performance of an opposition player in Luke McCowan isn't exactly occupying the minds of supporters.

But the ex-Ayr United attacker did put in an impressive performance to help blow apart Rangers' title hopes and he claims that he couldn't have done so without the Staggies.

Luke McCowan takes Ross County inspiration

Speaking to BBC Sport after the game, Luke McCowan claimed that Dundee don't fear anyone in the league.

Well, maybe we'll see an upset at Dens Park when Celtic go there in a couple of weeks' time then.

The ex-Ayr United forward has been a crucial player in Dundee's top six achievement, netting nine goals and laying on five assists in the Scottish Premiership.

Whilst none of those were against Rangers, McCowan has claimed the Dundee team were given inspiration by the Ibrox side's defeat to Ross County just days previously.

“Ross County getting the victory [against Rangers] on Sunday gives us belief,” said the 26-year-old.

“It’s credit to the players and staff behind the scenes who are working their bums off.

“We haven’t been good enough against the Old Firm this year but I thought we were superb.

“It was hard. They had a lot of possession. But we just knew when we got it we had to believe in ourselves.

“The message was just to keep a clean sheet and take our chances. We were a wee bit unlucky at the end.

“It’s a massive collective, everyone has played their part this season. The message with five games to go is just to keep pushing. The gaffer sends the message we don’t need to fear anyone.”

Dundee star named Man of the Match v Rangers

Luke McCowan might not have been on the radar of Rangers fans prior to the Dundee draw.

But the attacker definitely has a fan in former Ibrox striker Kenny Miller.

Having waxed lyrical about the forward on Open Goal the week previously, Miller handed McCowan the Man of the Match award on Sky Sports' coverage of the game.

"McCowan's been their best player," said Miller (Open Goal).

"He's one of the guys…he won't be up for Player of the Year but he's been one of the top performers in the league."

Rangers will now be hoping Luke McCowan and his teammates can repeat the feat against the other side of the Old Firm when Celtic come to visit in the Scottish Premiership split.
