Derek Ferguson has delivered a scathing rant on one Rangers star who has been offering ‘absolutely nothing’ over the last five or six games.

The Light Blues have let their standards slip at the most crucial of times and it has handed the initiative to Celtic in the Scottish Premiership title race.

Rangers showed supreme mental fortitude in the Old Firm derby draw with Celtic recently as they fought from 2-0 and 3-2 down to secure a point at Ibrox.

That kept them in the driving seat for a first league trophy since 2021. But harrowing performances against Ross County and Dundee followed and those results have derailed their ambitions.

Rangers lost 3-2 in the Highlands last Sunday before failing to provide a sufficient reaction – although Philippe Clement thought otherwise – against Dundee in midweek as they drew 0-0 at Dens Park.

And it was in Dundee where Rangers put in one of their worst displays of the season with no player barring perhaps Todd Cantwell receiving pass marks.

Ferguson castigates Rangers loanee Fabio Silva

Derek Ferguson was speaking on the Open Goal podcast after taking in the encounter, which was finally given the go-ahead after two previous call-offs.

And he was quick to criticise £35m attacker Fabio Silva, who Rangers signed on loan from Wolves in the January transfer window.

Ferguson says Silva has been useless in recent matches for Rangers and thinks the only reason he’s starting regularly under Clement is due to a clause in his Ibrox loan deal.

The 56-year-old ranted: “(Fabio) Silva offers you absolutely nothing. Silva must have a clause in his contract that he starts every game because in his last five or six performances, he’s been nothing short of woeful by the way.

"He contributes absolutely nothing. £35million player? He does absolutely nothing. No contribution.

“The thing is, it's this time of the season that if you want to be champions you have to have mental strength and if you feel under pressure, deal with it.

“But it’s went the other way and it's so disappointing by the way.”

Silva’s Rangers stats don’t live up to £35m hype

Although Rangers have a whole plethora of players underperforming at the wrong time of the season, Ferguson is right to point the finger at Silva.

The Ibrox No7 arrived with huge expectations and was seen as a glamour signing for Clement, who acted very quickly to bring him up to Glasgow until the summer.

But Silva has dreadfully failed to live up to the hype 18 games into his Rangers stint.

As per FotMob, the 21-year-old has netted just four goals, two of which coming against second tier Ayr United and soon-to-be second tier Livingston.

Clement has tried Silva as the No9 and out on the left wing, but the Belgian is failing to get anything out of the former Porto starlet who arrived with so much potential.
