Giuseppe Rossi has responded to being asked whether Manchester United should consider appointing Roy Keane as their next manager as Erik ten Hag continues to struggle to silence his doubters.

It is becoming increasingly difficult to imagine, from the outside, that Erik ten Hag will remain at Old Trafford next season.

Manchester United have moved backwards in the Premier League this term. Meanwhile, their FA Cup semi-final win over Coventry City was about as uninspiring at it could get, with United throwing away a three-goal lead against the Championship side.

Some think that ten Hag will be leaving Manchester United at some stage in the near future. But of course, one of the major issues the club face is finding the right replacement.

Giuseppe Rossi shares whether he would like Roy Keane as Manchester United manager

United have gone down a variety of paths since Sir Alex Ferguson stepped aside.

There has been some success. However, United remain some distance away from the title fight in the Premier League. And they will almost certainly not be playing in the Champions League next year.

The next appointment will be an intriguing one given that INEOS are now involved with the club.

Perhaps surprisingly, Giuseppe Rossi has told DAZN that he would be in favour of Roy Keane succeeding ten Hag as they look to create the right culture again.

"When I think about potentially having Roy Keane as manager at Old Trafford, that sounds like it could be really great. It would be something very cool,” he said.

"The club should definitely think about it if they have a change in management. A man who is a legend of the club and helped build their culture, that's exactly what is needed.

"Maybe some of the players that are not playing for the shirt would understand it more. Maybe you need someone to go into Manchester United and clean the house so to speak and build from there. It could be a great situation."

INEOS will be looking to make a real statement if Erik ten Hag leaves

It is hard to imagine many Manchester United fans agreeing with Rossi’s point of view.

Keane is a club legend; and one of the best midfielders the Premier League has seen. However, the 52-year-old has not been a manager for more than 13 years.

He did well during his time at Sunderland, taking the club back to the Premier League after taking over while they were languishing towards the bottom of the Championship.

His spell at Ipswich was less impressive.

He would certainly have an impact if he went back into United. And you could understand if some fans were ready for the club to be shaken up. It would certainly never be boring.

But if Sir Jim Ratcliffe did want to bring Keane back to Old Trafford, surely it would make a lot more sense to have him involved in the coaching team rather than as the number one.
