Wigan Athletic have a decision to make regarding the striker’s long-term future at the DW Stadium.

Wigan Athletic should keep hold of striker

Humphrys has had a decent season for Wigan and losing him for nothing in late June, potentially to another team in League One, would be a blow.

He has scored 11 goals in all competitions in this campaign and has enjoyed a new lease of life under the guidance of Shaun Maloney.

The Latics have a few players entering the final months of their deals such as Jason Kerr, Jordan James and Tom Pearce and need to start addressing player’s situations sooner rather than later.

Wigan signed Humphrys back in 2021 but it took him a while to adapt to life with the North West outfit.

He scored seven goals in his first year as they were promoted to the Championship. However, he was then loaned out to Hearts and it appeared his time with the club could have been over.

Maloney has brought him back into the fold though and the Oldham-born man has proved he can score goals in the Football League.

He rose up through the ranks at Bury and Fulham before he had stints at Southend United and Rochdale, The forward fired 11 goals in 29 matches for the latter.

Wrexham are eyeing promotion from League Two and it remains to be seen whether they still want Humphrys to bolster their squad. Regardless of whether the Red Dragons come back in for him, Wigan need to secure his future to ensure they get a transfer fee for him if he was to leave.
