Watford keen on League One boss

Watford have a big decision to make regarding their next appointment.

They have turned to Tom Cleverley in interim charge until the end of the season and he won 1-0 away at Birmingham City in his first game at the helm.

Maloney could be seen as the man to take them forward though and he has been with in the dugout at Wigan since January 2023.

He has done well with the North West outfit on a tight budget and with difficult circumstances off the field. They started this term with a points deduction but are currently sat in 11th place in the table.

The former Scotland international retired from his playing career in 2017. He made 394 appearances as a midfielder and scored 79.

Maloney won the FA Cup with Wigan in 2013 and also played for the likes of Celtic, Aston Villa, Chicago Fire and Hull City.

He first delved into the coaching world at Celtic as academy coach before joining the Belgium national team set-up.

Hibernian then handed him his first managerial role in 2021 but his time in Edinburgh didn’t work out in the end.

Wigan took a gamble on him last year and he has since done well amid fresh interest from Watford now.
