'Lost cause' – Notts County vs MK Dons prediction: The72

The72’s writers offer their Notts County vs MK Dons prediction ahead of the League Two clash on Monday afternoon.

Notts County head into the clash with MK Dons off the back of a 2-1 loss away from home against Swindon Town. Back-to-back defeats all but signal an end to any slight hope they still had of achieving a top seven finish.

Aaron Drinan netted the opener for Swindon before Paul Glatzel doubled the hosts’ advantage deep into the second half. Alassana Jatta did hit the back of the net for the Mapgies late on, but it was only to be a consolation as Notts dropped to 16th in the table with just six games left to play.

MK Dons, on the other hand, recorded an emphatic victory in their last outing as they ran out 5-0 winners over Walsall at Stadium MK to bounce back from a 5-0 defeat of their own last weekend against Stockport County.

Emre Tezgel, Alex Gilbey, Jose Tomlinson and Max Dean were the goalscorers on the day with the latter grabbing a brace alongside two assists as a second-half substitute. The Dons are now 4th in League Two, three points off the automatic promotion spots with five matches to go.

Here, a handful of our writers make their predictions for the game…

Jacob Hackett

“Notts County seem like a lost cause at the moment, and you have to feel for them given their excellent start to the season before manager Luke Williams was poached by Swansea City.

“The Magpies’ play-off aspirations appear all but over, and MK Dons will be looking to pile further misery onto their hosts on Monday when they visit Meadow Lane.

“Mike Williamson’s men will be brimming with confidence after their last result, so to follow it up with another victory would do no end of good for their promotion hopes.

“I can see Notts’ poor form continuing on this occasion, with the away side taking advantage and returning home with all three points.”

James Ray

“Mike Williamson was tipped to be a success upon his rise from the National League and he’s already shown many examples of why he came with a glowing reputation. The rampant win over Walsall was another, and I can see them winning again here as well.

“Notts County frankly need the end of the season. Give Maynard and co the chance to shuffle the ranks and kick on in the new campaign after a tough slide over recent months.

“MK can slip up on the road, but I don’t think they will here. I’ll go for a 3-1 away win.”

Notts County vs MK Dons prediction: 1-3
